Germany Road Trip - Part 3 - Wurzburg and the Beginning of the Romantic Road

The next part of the trip was to Wurzburg - after we left Assmanshausen, we drove to this northernmost point of the Romantic Road. Wurzburg put us back in Bavaria, and we got to see one of the grandest palaces of the area - the Residenz. But of course, we had to have our little walking tour of the city. We spent the evening after our Rhine cruise just walking around Wurzburg looking at the sights, and left the touring of the palace until the next day.

Something I loved about the city was looking for all of the Madonnas on the buildings. The guidebooks all said that they are very proud of these in the city, and they really are everywhere! The next day we went to the Residenz - no pictures allowed inside, of course! The staircase was definitely a highlight, and the artwork on the walls and the inlaid wood floors were beautiful. We found out that the dogs were allowed in the gardens, so we came back later with them to explore the grounds. After we left Wurzburg, we continued to drive along the Romantic Road, stopping in a a few different towns to check them out. We had a picnic in Weikersheim, where their palace had a beautiful rose garden.

Then it was on to Rothenburg...
